We believe in… the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting
Romans 8:18-23
“The creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.” (verse 21)
We tend to think of ‘life after death’ purely in terms of our individual destinies, ignoring the fact that God’s great plan of salvation and redemption is not just for mankind alone, but embraces the whole of creation.
In the present age, the whole universe shares in the sufferings and frustrations of the human race. Instead of governing the world wisely and lovingly, as God’s representatives, we have fought over it, exploited its resources, and degraded its beauty. Its original potential has never been fulfilled.
But God’s purpose will not fail. “In keeping with His promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.” (II Peter 3:13) And so all creation longs for the day when Jesus will return (Psalm 96:13) and we shall be resurrected in our new bodies. Then the earth will be renewed and we will rule it as God originally intended. Then at last the world will know freedom, harmony and fulfilment.
